The Mathematics of Art
Dive in with me, (I’m also a distance swimmer) Jeanne Lazzarini, as I share over 40 years of teaching, writing, and research experience in blending math with art!
As DaVinci once said: "Whatever you do in life, if you want to be creative and intelligent, and develop your brain, you must do everything with the awareness that everything, in some way, connects to everything else."

Jeanne Lazzarini is an acclaimed Master Math Educator, Published Author, Presenter, Teacher Trainer, and an admired promoter of engaging mathematics for all. For over 40 years her proven abilities in creating engaging learning applications and integrating a wide range of topics with mathematics has inspired hundreds of students from K to adult levels. She earned honors with her B.S. in Math degree from Santa Clara University; continued graduate work at UC Davis in the Masters in Math Education program; has a lifetime Single Subject Teaching Credential in Mathematics; taught and created documents for satellite tracking courses as a Systems Analyst/Training Specialist for Unisys Corporation to civilian and non-civilian personnel for 8 years in the Blue Cube at Moffett Air Force Base; took post-graduate studies in Computer Science at Santa Clara University; went on to teach “Math as Art” to K – 5th graders in a public school; then taught 1st grade for 2 years at a Catholic school; returned to the same Catholic school a few years later as Math Chair teaching 7th and 8th grade math for 7 years; she taught summer High School Geometry at Bellarmine College Prep; she is a Google certified instructor; and for 9 years she was the Math Master Educator and R&D Specialist at RAFT (Resource Area for Teaching) training/coaching educators and students, presenting at Conferences and workshops, creating over 150 “Activity Sheets” and Maker activities; she has written several articles for the California Mathematics Council; was a contributing Editor for the NCTM; and was the Program Specialist for the American Institute of Mathematics for 3 years. Currently, Jeanne also serves as an Academic Board Advisor for the Julia Robinson Math Festivals (JRMF) and for the IMC (International Maths Challenge). For several years she was also the West Coast Editor for Victorian Homes Magazine and a contributing Editor for several other national magazines and newspapers on historic design and lifestyles. She lives in San Jose, CA, with her husband, Mark in their restored 1887 Victorian home which has been featured on HGTV and has won national recognition for their over 40 years of hard work. They have 2 sons -- Daniel (married with their 2 grandkids) and Robert. Jeanne is an avid distance swimmer, self-taught classical piano player, stained glass window artist, and so much more! Jeanne has a zest for creative innovation, loves combining math with all subjects, collaborating with teachers and students, and discovering techniques that bring out the passion for learning in everyone!
